Snow snow glorious snow

The snow is still around and the driving and walking is difficult. The mayor promised on Sunday to have the snow cleaned up from the streets where schools are. He said it is his number one priority! Well, yesterday both the elementary and middle school streets were not cleaned up properly, kids almost fell trying to cross the street with their parents, people picking up with their cars couldnt stop, the roads are also bad. My street has yet to be cleaned. I guess the streets that are not important dont get the clean up. In NYC it appears that Manhattan gets the priority and the rest are left waiting. I guess that is the way it is, people complain to each other and nothing gets done, they are upset about the mayor's overall performance for the past 8 years and still voted for him to be re-elected in November. I am sure we will have more taxes, more snow problems, more issues with the MTA and worse and worse conditions for the middle class living in the boroughs outside of Manhattan. I feel that if people are complaining to each other they should be voicing their opinions to those who matter specifically those who are in office. Few do, those of us who voice their opinions are often deemed as trouble makers but accepting things that are wrong to you is advocating for yourself not being a trouble maker. So I will continue to be a trouble maker until my street is cleaned up, but I am sure that the snow will probably melt before that happens :)

Happy Holidays and all the best in 2010!!!!

Great Movie and book

I recently saw a very nice movie called Love in the Time of Cholera. It was an ok film that was entertaining. I shared this with a freind who told me that the book is bettter. so I read it and thought i'd share with anyone who is looking to read a nice historically based book about love. It's a love story taking place in the 1800's in South America. The author is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This book was in the Oprah's Book Club. The author is a Nobel Prize Winner.

The story is about 2 major characters Florentino and Fermina. In their youth they fall in love but the girl's father wants her to marry a rich man which Florentino is not. Eventually, the girl marries a doctor who comes from a wealthy family and Florentino is devestated. He spends most of his life conquering women to try to push away the hurt he feels and eventually becomes rich and successful himself. 50 years later Fermina's husband dies and Florentino who has been following her all these years tries to start a relationship with her. The story goes into details about the history as well as the division of the classes that took place during that time. It delves into human nature and the love between 2 people of different backgrounds. Very nicely written.

Hurry Hurry Hurry!!!!!

Finally

Finally the heat at work has been reduced. For the past couple of weeks we had heating here that made it so hot that I had to take out all my summer clothes out of the closet in order to wear them here. Now I can finally wear some of the beautiful sweaters that I recently purchased and also sell. Today I wore this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200414284515&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

I already sold a bunch to my neighbors, a relative and one online and have a few more. Very soft, looks great with a pair of skinny pants/jeans and a long sleeve cotton shirt underneath. Never thought I be able to pull off a sweater dress tunic but it looks awesome and everyone loves the Royal Blue color mixed with other colors.

Happy Black Friday!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Did not tolerate the Blakc Friday mob, it seems to get worse every year. People behave like animals just to save a few bucks. At least I havent heard of anyone getting hurt on the news yet like last year.

Hoping that everyone can check out some of my auctions, one is ending soon:

Thanksgiving is finally here

I am so happy that I will be off for 4 days! It is a blessing to be home with the family and have some rest from the massive amount of work. This year I am also thankful that the Thanksgiving party will be at my in-laws. Although I will be cooking there tomorrow I don't have to deal with it at my home. My younger son is afraid that the turkey will be running around the house since he heard on the news that there was one turkey who escaped from a truck and was living on the highway for a period of time. This made him state the fact that he has no intentions of eating Grandma's turkey and will make sure to open all the doors and windows so that the poor animal can escape back to its mom and dad. hopefully he will not become too upset when he sees the bird on the table all decorated, cooked and ready to be cut up and served. He is too young to remember the one from last year. I do look forward to the feast, the fun and the celebration with the family. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving ! Enjoy the celebration.

Strange people

There are some strange people out there and I just dont seem to be able to understand their behaviors. I became very close friends with one co-worker. This person went through some really difficult personal life and I was there to help and be supportive. Now this individual is treating me like I have leprosy. I like to help friends and co-workers and a lot of times I do go out of my way for people especially when they need me to be there for them. I guess now that the problem is over there is no need to constantly be at my door or call/email me after work to cry over situations at home. Oh, well there are some strange people that just love to use and drain people and when they are done with their free counseling they move on. I am glad though that the problems have resolved themselves and I no longer have to share the pain and agony of hearing about this person's most difficult home life.

Now I can concentrate on selling!

Ok, couldnt resist

I ordered more wonderful sweaters from the Wholesale place that I have dealing with lately. They are fantastic, most of their items are done at the warehouse and the sweaters are just gorgeous. You can see the hand made items were done carefully with great care. I just picked up more sweaters and was a bit upset when they didnt have the sweater dresses that everyone seems to love. Also, will be selling the bathrobes, couldnt help but ordering their precious clothing, the prices are unbeatable and the quality is top notch. Will absolutely be selling these as soon as I can upload the pics. will also try ones I am keeping since I usually sell items that I have actually worn as well. the other sweaters that I am selling I kept 1 of each for myself and also kept as gifts for relatives and friends. So when I sell these items I can describe them from first hand knowledge and I will never sell anything that I myself would not use.

Great Quote I want to share

" God Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference ".

This is a great quote that was given to me to hang up by a very close co-worker with who I worked with for many years. She was a fantastic individual who was wise, gave excellent advise that helped many people at work deal with the stress we all go through. I miss her now that she retired and most of all I miss her wonderful quotes.

Great Quote I had to share

"God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot Change, the Courage to Change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference."

This is a great quote that was given to me by a very close co-worker of mine who knew the frustrations of the job that we both had. She tried to teach me to take things one day at time and know which battles to put aside. I really miss her now that she retired and I will miss her great wisdom and wonderful quotes that she shared with me that got me throught the most stressful days.

My liitle helpers

Starting a side business is pretty difficult especially when you are already working full time and have a family of 4 to take care of. My kids have taken a great interest in helping me sell my products and hopefully get the business going so that it will be easier to pay the bills. My older son is in middle school and loves photography. He has decided to help me with the picture taking and editing. My younger one is also very curious and has been asking how he can help.My husband mails the items out when I have to get to work before the Post Office opens. It is so rewarding when the family helps out. Making ends meet these days is very difficult and I want to be able to make a few extra money. With all the hard work and the family with me I am up for the challenge and am staying positive. I feel blessed!

Stress and Burnout happens in all fields and business!

I read this great article today about people who have complete burnout from their job or business even when they are successful! How can having money and a great business in this economy cause people to be stressed. I would think that it would be the complete opposite. It appears that the article states that those individulas who are successful in their field become bored when they reach their goals. They have the thrill of achieving the dream and once that is scrathced off their list they tend to become stressed out.

Stress solutions:

It's important to manage your stress. People may use their addiction to work as a an excuse to avoid other things in their life such as family, friends, etc. We all need Social Support, Forgiving self and others, Relaxation Skills such as deep breathing and positive imagery as well as hobbies and taking care of yourself.

To help you if you feel burned out:

Avocacy

Networking

Learn new skills

Volunteer

Set new goals for yourself

Change your Behaviors

Remember, attaining a dream takes work. Emotional difficulties can be a sign that you need to change your behaviors to attain your dreams. Change is good!

Halloween activities in NYC

I am looking forward to some of the Halloween activities in the NY area. I will be going to the Halloween walk in Marine Park this Saturday, hopefull the rain will stay away :) This is a yearly tradition for my family we get dressed up and walk through a maze of fun, scares and activities at Marine Park in Brooklyn. I wouldnt recommend it for kids under 5 since there are a few masked volunteers jumping out of the bushes that may be too frightening for little kids.

Also, in Brooklyn there is the wonderful Verazzano Botanical Garden where you have the yearly costume contest for pets. Very cute and lots of fun.

In Long Island's Adventureland in a few weeks we will go trick or treating as well as spending the day riding the rides and having a blast! This too is a tradition and have been going there for almost 8 years!

Have a great day!

Unique Indoor Table Top Fountins

I love indoor water fountains and find them to be very relaxing and charming for any home. the ones that I recently came across are very uniquely designed. The first is the Indoor Water Fountain Enchanted Forest Bonsai Gardens
The gorgeous Fountain has shining waterfalls descending down the ridges of a rock facade, surrounded by greenery with the most calming sounds of water. Inspired by traditional Japanese Bonsai gardens, this fountain captures the imagination and imparts an air of serenity. Polyresin base, fabric leaves.

The second one is TABLETOP INDOOR FOUNTAIN, Country cottage, complete with Water Wheel, adds the soothing sound of trickling water to any tabletop.

There you will find a friendly atmosphere to get support and answers to the many questions that we all have about health and diseases. The topics found on the board vary from nutritional questions about vitamins and supplements, Mind and Energy facts, Women's and Men's Health, Dentistry, Vision and Diabetes. Some of the forums helped me with a particular question that I had about root canals and eye care medication. The section about money saving tips was very interesting. HealthyFellow website

I just visited a great site I would like to recommend for all those who would like to learn more about Health. The site is http://www.healthyfellow.com/ "Health Blog". Here you will find such article as Raw foods that are a new revolution that many are starting to follow to better health, Dancing to enhance mind and body, Soy Guide for Men, Quitting Smoking, as well as Vitamin D and Chronic Pain. I would really recommend you visit the site. One of the more interesting article I found was the one about Swine Flu being effected by those who consumed fish oil. I found it to be disturbing since I always thought fish oil and the vitamins found in it would protect from many deseases and increase immunity. The article about raw food is something I came across some time ago and the article really was informative. I do believe that eating raw frutis and vegetable gives the body the full amount of vitamins but I am not sure how one can live on only those foods that can be eatern only in raw form.

Dont fix something that works

Why do people in charge always have to fix things that aren't broken? There are so many things wrong that can really use some changes but i noticed that people in charge make unnecessary changes that only hurts business in the process. here at work everything has been going smoothly for 4 years since i started. i see my clients, go to meetings and update all reports. the same goes for all the other clinicians. the clients are happy, the support staff are happy. so now they decided to make things more difficult, making unnecessary changes with a system that has worked well. however, the problems that can really use some help they leave alone. there arent enough supplies, there arent enough computers, the desks and chairs are over 30 years old and they look it! the copy machine is broken more times that it works. why not address these concerns. but, who am i to talk " I dont know nothing i just work here". Companies whether online or actual physical business settings should try very hard not to fix things that dont need fixing. it will hurt business and make people leave.
when people in charge make decisions without really asking for opinion that is the cause of company breakdown.

selling as a passion

http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/igmato

ok, well i decided that after years of being a therapist i will supplement my income with selling items on various sites. it has become a passion for me and i really love to take the pictures, post the items and anticipate the customers looking at my products. i did my research and sold a bit on ebay but the fees are starting to really kill me. unless i become a powerseller i dont know how i can compete with people who sell cheap items. so i joined bonanzle which is a new alternative to ebay. very nice people, very supportive group of sellers. so far i had 12 sales so not that bad but things are slow. there are no auctions and people can buy now. there are no fees to open up a booth and sell and it is well worth it. this place reminds me of how ebay used to be before it got way too big. that's what happens to big corporations they forget about the little guy and become too gready. bonanzle is small and just starting out but for a company that is less that a year it now almost #3! not bad for the new kid on the block.

I have a great booth there and have lots of goodies for everyone. i sell clothes, accessories, eledctronics, computer accessories, jewelry and much more.

GREAT NEW ITEMS

NYC recommendation

Here's some place to go and eat out that I recommend if you live in the area or coming for a visit.
Seaport is great this time of the year to walk around, eat and do some shopping. Fantastic for the kids as well. nearby there is the Body's Museum that is FANTASTIC. It is the best I have seen very educationala nd amazing. Check out their website. I recommend it to everyone, not for younger kids as there is nudity and displays are graphic and may scare younger children.

Loved the charming French Bistro in the village on Bleeker street called AOC FRENCH Bistro. great food, very cozy. Right in the heart of the village.

The Bubble Show is great, a nice place to take the kids.

And ofcourse Central Park, Museum of Natural History, Interpid, Circles, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island tours, MOMA, Botanical Garden, Bronx Zoo.

North Carolina Vacation

Great places to visit with family is North Carolina. North Carolina's outer bank is fantastic there's 130 miles of barrier islands that has lots of beaches, historic sites an ideal for warm weather getaways. You can visit Roanake Island if you like history to see the first British settlement. Beautiful gardens, fantastic restaurants and a beautiful seashore. some sites to check out for more info:

Buxton bag

I purchased the Buxton bag that is advertised on TV all the time. I really needed a bag that can be used when I travel and I hate to carry big bags when I go someplace with the kids. The store near me was having a clearance sale and I got it for much less than advertised. I thought it would be a bit bigger an although I haven't used it yet I fear that it will not be able to carry as much as I need for 2 kids. It can fit my wallet that is big, 2 bottled of small water, makeup and a compact umbrella. Has lots of inner compartments for credit card, pets, small notebook, other small items like sanitiser and tissues. It does bulge up a bit but it is leather and ?I don't think will rip too soon. I will be using it this weekend and hope it will help. Has anyone else used it ? if so, what is your opinion of this as seen on TV item ?

Selling

I am selling many of my items on various places such Bonanzle. check out my booth there are lots of items
http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/igmato

I started top sell many of the items around the house after I got tired of all the closet being jammed packed. So signed up to this great site, took pictures and started to write up the reviews to post. Sold a few things already and this site is getting more popular by the day.

i used to keep all the toys and clothes from the kids as they used to get older and bought all those vacuum sealed storage bags., Even with them I am starting to have less and less room. My husband collects a lot of electronics and magazines so there foes the extra space for my things. would love to do a garage sale one of these days not just for the money but also to clear out things that other people can use. Some items I found in the closets are new and sealed ! Time to go an check out more things to sell :)

Upstae New York

If you are visiting Upstae New York here is a recommendation if you are traveling with kids. Albany is a nice city to visit, very quiet and there are a few spots that are good especially in the Spring and summer when the flowers are in bloom. Kids over the age of 8 will love the USS Slater. Go aboard a real destroyer ship. there are lots of ladders so if you are afraid of heights or have difficulty climbing up or down a steep ladder dont go on this. We all had a great time and the guide was fantastic and made the trip all worthwhile. You get to see how over 200 men lived on board this ship. Very educational and makes you appreciate things more.

Less than an hour away from Albany in a town called Cobbleskills, is Howe Caverns and Secret Caverns. I would suggest you visit both to see from different perspective of a wonderful area of caverns under the earth! Howe Caverns is more commercialized and had easier walking area that has been cleared and paved. There is also a boat ride on the underground lake. No Bats! The tour is about 1 1/2 hours and the guide we had was really great made it a lot of fun. Lots of walking so make sure you get your sneakers. Secret Caverns is smaller and there are not too many people who visit there. There are over 150 steps to go up and down into the tighter caverns and the ground is wet and slippery. At the end you will see a huge underground waterfall, beautiful site. Fantastic as well but I would not recommend it for anyone with young kids as well as those who have trouble walking. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but the price was a bit too high I think, I understand why since they are trying to make money and to compete with the more advertised Howe Ceverns. Outside of the Secret Cavern is a an area that you can see a partial ice in the ground that the tour guide stated never melts !

We stayed at a nice place, Cobbleskills Best Western Inn. Nice price, good room. There is an indoor pool that is good for our young kids and the hotel really does cater more to families with younger kids. there are rooms that face the pool which is convenient to just run in and jump in the pool rather than walk all wet through the lobby to get to your room. There is a restaurant in hotel which was ok. Vey hard to find places to eat in the area, no franchise restaurants only small local eateries and a diner.

Along the way we stopped off Saugerties which is near Woodstock. There is the Saugerties Lighthouse that has a nice trail that ends up in the lighthouse. Beautiful view and a great walk through the woods, bridges and beautiful flowers, walk on the beach with the fantastic view of the Hundson River. As you get closer to NYC there is Bear Mountain that has a nature trail with museums and animal conservation. Great place to visit with kids, a lake on the way takes you through native american artifacts, animals, revolutionary war era artifacts and more.

Check it out, New York State has some nice budget getways for the weekend !

loved the ending of life on mars and battle star gallactica

great ending to great shows. i loved battlestars ending it had a message, explanation of the many things from our own history as well as forewarning about our future and destiny. the show ended really well and i will miss it.

life on mars had a really unespected ending that i found very refreshing and brand new. it did leave one question at the end when you see the 70's white shoe on the the ground what was that all about? i am not sure why this show ended i thought it was a really good and smart show that was really entertaining. i cant believe that it wasnt doing that well.

Mackinac Island Michigan weekend getaway

Here's a weekend getawy recommendation for a great island in northern michigan called Mackinac Island. A few suggestions for a great getaway:

Carriage tour takes you around the town along the coast which allows you to see the beautiful homes.

Grand Hotel has very fancy delicious food and fireworks the weekend we visited. The movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeves was filmed in this hotel..

Bike tour through the State Park is fantastic. Visit the Arch Rock which is the island's best wonder.

Butterfly House has many exotic species.

Take an aerial tour of the island.

Sailing tours of the island is very relaxing.

Eat at the Historic Island House Hotel, the restaurant specializes in steak and seafood. Classy.

Good parks to spend a nice day with kids

Seabreeze park which starts from Ocean parkway to W. 8st. in brooklyn is great. It has an area to play ball, ride a bike, roller blade and skate. There is a nice playground that is full of swings, slides and lots to entertain the kiddies.

Marine Park is another great park that is pretty big. I love to go play ball and fly a kite with the kids. They also roller blade and ride there bikes there. Great playground and in the summer the sprinklers are turned on in the specific area so put on the the swim wear and let the kiddies have a blast.

Summer camps

There a number of camps in the area that offer great activities. I sent my son for one summer to Manhattan Beach camp in brooklyn and would not recomend this place since the manager is pretty arrogant. There were problems with the bus not coming or coming late. One day the bus came 30 minutes early due to an early dismnissal that i was not notified of and the bus matron left my 6 year old with a neighbor who said that he knew my son. It was a
good thing that this was actually my neighbor. when i called the manager he said well that is my son's fault. they are lucky i didnt sue them i just took him out of the camp.

For the past several years he has been going to shorefront y on coney island ave which is really nice and they go on many trips as well as have an indoor pool. I would also recommend seagate camp that is fantastic i know someone who has been sendingf their children there for a number of years, also kingsbay y is great and well as marine park camp. My best advice is to visit all the places, ask some parents and do your research. the camps are pretty expensive these days and you need to be sure that they will provide all that they offer.

what is a passive aggressive

ok well, today at work someone asked me what is a passive aggressive individual. It seems that in my line of work I come accross patients who may be acting in an aggressive way or in a passive aggressive way because that is part of their symptoms and it is my job at their threapist to try to change that behavior. There are staff who are also passive aggressive. so the definition of someone who is aggressive but in a passive way would be someone who smiles in your face and acts like a friend and then causes you to get in trouble or will block your car in the parking lot so that it will take you a long time to get out all the while saying " oh, I'm sorry I didnt realize i was blocking you ". passive aggressive people hide their true anger and aggression and leave only little clues to their true self. The aggressive person will tell it to your face when they dont like you and are upfront where as the passive type will seem like a friend but will hurt you in the end. Most of the time the passive aggressive person will bottle their anger up until it explodes. the aggression will have to come out some how like a boiling tea kettle.

Cooking ideas

Trying to find good recipes that are tasty and kids will also like. My husband and I love Thai food but we realize that some of spices are a bit too spicy. Cant seem to find healthy ideas that kids will like as well. My
older son loves Japanese food and loves sushi. I am tired of the old cookbook and receipes I have so here is one that I made last night and was a great success as a main dish surved with rice and some salad:

Chicken Curry

6 boneless chicken breasts cut in half and diced
2 cloves of garlic that are minced
3/4 onions, I used vidalia but this can be used with any sort. chopped.
1/2 cup of green peppers.
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of margerine
2 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt or salt substitute

Directions:

In a skillet saute the chicken that has already been diced in olive oil till the chicken is cooked thoroughly.

Reove the chicken and set it aside.

In the meantime melt margerine in the skillet and saute the garlic, onions, peppers till they are soft.

Add the curry powder, thyme and salt blending them with the sauted vegetables.

Add the chicken and stir well.

Enjoy !

Brooklyn Kids Activities

NY Aquarium,
Coney Island Astroland is open for its last season
Brooklyn children's Museum is great for toodler, preschoolers and younger elemntary school aged kids
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
Prospect Park Zoo: small and great for kids of all ages.

Great places to visit with the kids

The Spring Break is almost here and I am sure that many parents would like to go to nice places in the area with the kids. NYC has lots to offer if that is where you are from. I would recommend Intrepid, it has reopened. Try to take children who like walking around and looking at historical museum artifacts. Younger children may become too tired. This place is approrpiate for elementary, middle school and High school students.

Another favorite of mine is the American Museum of Natural History. You will definely need the entire day and even so may not finish the whole museum. I had return for another day with the kids. The touring/visiting exhibits are often extra price. It is a great place for kids over 6 years old since younger kids will become easily tired. It's really a lot to handle in one day, a lot of walking so if you can split the exhibits in 2 days that would be better. There are combination packages for the museum and planetarium which I doubt anyone can finish in one day unless you pick the exhibits you want to see and skip the rest. The museum is stroller and wheelchair accessable except for some parts such as the minerals section that was a bit hard with the stroller I had with me. There are a lot of tourists and the place will be packed during weekends/holidays. There are cafeterias throughout the museum but they are pricey ! I saw a number of people bringing their lunch with them and eating in one of the dining areas, I would check first with the museum website to make sure you can carry food in. The best part is that there is a subway that goes directly into the entrance of the museum so if the weather is not so great you dont even have to come out of the museum.

Accross from the museum is Central Park. Other ideas are Statue of Liberty, Manhattan Children's Museum, Seaport.
